Therapy for Adults in the San Francisco Bay Area
Depth Oriented Therapy
My approach:
There are many things that shape who we are: our early relationships, family dynamics, natural temperaments, and the experiences we have had to adapt to. Over time, we develop patterns and defenses that help us make sense of the world and survive. These patterns are often intelligent and protective, but they can also begin to limit the life and relationships we want to have.
In therapy, I listen for what is beneath the surface: words, symbols, feelings, repetitions, and relational patterns. Bringing these into view can be the beginning of understanding and loosening them. I respect how long it can take for patterns to develop, and I bring patience to the work of change, while also holding the preciousness of time and the desire to live more freely now.
Because we are shaped in relationship, the therapeutic relationship is central to the work. Therapy offers a different kind of relationship: patient, curious, nonjudgmental, and attentive. The patterns that show up in life often show up in the therapy room too, and paying attention to them together can become an important part of healing.
While my approach is rooted in psychodynamic theory, I also integrate other modalities depending on your needs, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and existential therapy.
Who I Work With
I often work with adults who feel stuck in ongoing, frustrating relational patterns, the kind that keep repeating despite their best efforts. Many of the people I see experience rumination, overthinking, social anxiety, relationship dissatisfaction, or a persistent sense of loneliness. They often understand their struggles intellectually, yet still feel trapped in the same emotional and relational cycles.
You may have already tried to feel better for a long time. Insight can be a great starting point, but it often is not enough to create lasting change. Together we focus on helping you begin to feel and relate differently, using that understanding as a guide.
I also support adults navigating mood and anxiety concerns (including depression, anxiety, OCD, and bipolar disorder), body image struggles, complex trauma, career transitions, and perfectionism.
